COR Competency Model

The competency model outlined in the new COR Certification Program Policy represents the main areas of knowledge that are needed to effectively and efficiently perform delegated contract management duties. The main knowledge areas are:

A. Business/Program/Industry Knowledge and Performance - i.e. sufficient knowledge of laws, regulations and terminology, etc for a particular field, sufficient to work with, understand, and evaluate technical information and to advise on technical issues related to a particular field.
B. General Management Knowledge and Performance - i.e. skillful application of knowledge or cognitive ability to lead teams by building coalitions, applying communication, change management, problem solving, influence, business acumen, and conflict resolution skills while remaining focused on results.
C. Project Management Knowledge and Performance - i.e. the knowledge and skillful application of the principles, techniques, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
E. Procurement Knowledge and Performance - i.e. the skillful application of knowledge of various types of contracts, techniques for contracting or procurement, contract negotiation and contract administration.

Increased competence in these areas will develop as an individual advances in his/her career path and accepts assignments to more challenging projects thereby gaining valuable experience in each area.
